Colored Diamond: The Wittelsbach-Graff

The rare 31.06-carat flawless deep blue Wittelsbach-Graff diamond, which i blogged about earlier is now on display at the American Museum of Natural History until early next year.

The Wittelsbach-Graff bears the names of two of its owners. It was just the Wittelsbach, a 35.56 carat stone purchased in 2008 for $24.3 million by famed diamantaire Laurence Graff. The stone, now known as the Wittelsbach-Graff diamond has been recut to 31.06 carats to showcase the color and up the rating to internally flawless. type IIb, deep blue.

The stone has a long history dating back to 1664 when it was given by Philip IV of Spain to his daughter, the Infanta Margarita Teresa, upon her engagement to Emperor Leopold I of Austria. The stone was later passed to the Wittelsbach family, part of the ruling house of Bavaria and takes its name from them. The crown jewels of the House of Wittelsbach were sold at Christie's in 1931 but the blue diamond was not among them. It resurfaced in Belgium in 1951.
The Wittelsbach-Graff diamond will be on display at the American Museum of Natural History through January 2nd, 2011. via

That Vintage Feel....

Before Effect/ Original Image.

CinemaScope Effect

Cross Process Effect - a serendipity! It is an effect discovered independently by many photographers often by mistake when processing negatives in wrong chemicals (resulting in an orange base). The effect has been well known since the 60s. Model wearing Sharart Design. (Earring: Pink Opal, Aquamarine & Diamond. Necklace: pink Opal, Aquamarine, Blue chalcedony, Cultured pearls and diamonds.)

1960s Effect
This weekend kinda flew by me although i had a 3 day break. I was calling hotels, searching for makeup artists, florist, photographers etc. K has been looking at car rentals. I realize im so drawn to images that have that vintage feel to them. Reminds me of my grandparent's old pics, they have kept for ages, stained with that old patina. I love it. i love the look, i love the smell. I googled to check out cameras that are capable of creating that old charm and of course, lomo is one of my fav. i have a few lomo cameras but u know it's quite tricky to get those pics to all look good. It takes 10 to get one good shot. I chance upon an amazing site that has all the tools to create that FEEL :Picnik is a great site for lazy people like myself. Love the classic, vintage images:

Antique Diamond Cuts

Rose cut diamonds, first introduced in the 1500s have much fewer facets than the modern brilliant cut. typically, up to 24 facets, it has this smooth appeal, less fire or blink than a modern cut. The bottom of the diamond is flat while the top is domed shaped and the facets meet at a point.

Another antique cut, OLD MINE cut is cushioned shaped diamond with a high crown, deep pavilion, and large culet.

Old european is the fore runner of the modern cut.
